Crist starts anti-foreclosure task force

Gov. Charlie Crist has created a task force to address the state’s escalating foreclosure rate.

The Florida Home Ownership Promotes the Economy task force includes representatives from the mortgage and banking industries, as well as consumer advocates and policy experts. Members will review the state’s foreclosure rate and its impact on the economy.

The new task force is charged with developing an action plan to address the foreclosure rate and identify ways to preserve home ownership for Floridians.

In 2007, Florida ranked second in the number of home foreclosures, with twice as many foreclosures than in 2006, according to a news release. In addition, one out of every 95 households experienced foreclosure in the state last year, a more than 275 percent jump when compared with 2006, Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink said in a prepared statement.
